A Hudna (from the Arabic هدsignة means “calm” or “calm”) is a ceasefire or ceasefire. It is sometimes translated as “ceasefire.” In his medieval dictionary of classical Arabic, the Lisan al-Arab, Ibn Manzur defined it as: Calm Waters Credit Agreement: the credit agreement between (1) the borrower and (2) Calm Waters Partnership dates from the date of this act. In English, the term is the most used when it comes to a ceasefire agreement in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, especially a term involving organizations such as Hamas. The concept of Hudna was first introduced by Yasser Arafat in a speech secretly recorded in 1994 at a Johannesburg mosque, in which he repeatedly lowered the Oslo Accords as a mere “hudna,” citing the precedent set by Muhammad with the Quraian tribe to support his position. Some claim that Israeli businessman Eyal Erlich was declared in 2001, after seeing a hudna was declared to appease a quarrel in Jordan (cf. Haaretz, January 2, 2002); unsuccessfully introduced the idea that Israel should propose a mutual Hudna as a prelude to a more lasting peace. In January 2004, senior Hamas official Abdel Aziz al-Rantissi offered a 10-year Hudna in exchange for the total withdrawal of all territories conquered during the Six-Day War, the establishment of a Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza, and the unlimited “right” to return all Palestinian refugees to Israel. Rantissi gave interviews to European journalists and said the Hudna was limited to ten years and was a decision of the movement because it was “difficult to liberate our entire country at this stage; But hudna would not mean recognition of the State of Israel. Hamas later rejected the offer when it mentioned it to the Arab media and said it would never compromise with Israel and would not continue to fight until its goals were achieved; Israel ignored Hamas` offer. Ian Lustick tried to revive the term Hudna in 2010 in an article on the De Forbes website.
An early famous hudna was Hudaybiyyah`s contract between Muhammad and the Quraisch tribe.
