Villeneuve actually had a great rookie season, few riders except Hamilton did better, he was immediately up to date. He has a point, although imo, not in the sense that he has to drive for Ferrari, but why not Red Bull? He has the chance to face one of the two best drivers of the era, and if Mercedes leaves with two bottas drivers, even the title, a difficult title for once, does it seem that Hamilton does not have many, 2008, 2018? I would say no more. LH is probably only delaying any agreement on a new contract for as long as possible in the hope that it will maximize what will be offered to it. Don`t you think he`s thinking about not racing next year, why wouldn`t he? He actually knows that 2021 is almost safe for another WDC, because this winter only minimal development is allowed and he knows that Bottas has no chance of beating him in a direct fight in the same machine. Also, there is no indication that its driving abilities or Mercedes are lagging behind as a racing team, and I`m sure it`s curious to test itself under the new 2022 regulations. So I think he will sign for 2021 + 2022 in the hope of taking these two WDCs, probably not beyond, because if Merc fairs and makes in some way “a 2020 Ferrari” for the 2022 car, he will not want to engage in the race for more than one season, which they produce. Many of Hamilton`s sentiments leave little room for interpretation and, in all likelihood, Hamilton and Mercedes will reach a quick agreement when negotiations begin. Yes, indeed, it would be good, I`m pretty sure Hamilton and Verstappen can compete with bottas drivers in a Red Bull a little worse than Merc. Wolff and Hamilton both said they were not setting deadlines for extending his contract.
At the Turkish Grand Prix, Wolff said Hamilton`s revival could come after the end of the season. “It`s easy to just sign an agreement and still haven`t thought about what would happen next,” he said. I guess Mercedes made a fair but imperfect offer. .
